Kimmortal is renowned for their highly conceptual genre-bending musical explorations and lyrical intricacies. The queer non-binary Filipinx artist flows between singing and rapping; their signature subversive gusto is complemented by a down-to-earth, human vulnerability. Their third album Shoebox (2023) expresses the journey of healing intergenerational trauma and celebrating the 2SLGBTQ+ community. Kimmortal’s music video Blue and Orange, directed by Aya Garcia and co-written by Kimmortal and Tin Lorica, received Best Music Video at the Disorient Asian American Film Festival in 2023. It is based on the real-life experience of a Filipina lesbian couple, Darla and Cecilia, in a long-distance relationship before Skype and the legal recognition of same-sex partnerships. Kimmortal’s 2025 single Sunniest Days highlights the gap between how things seem on the outside and the emotional struggles within, illustrating the difficulty of staying hopeful during personal and global crises. It touches on feeling lonely, overwhelmed, weighed down by personal struggles, but still holding onto hope. Pushing through the tough times and finding solace in community.
