Maxida Märak 🇸🇪
Sweden’s Maxida Märak entered the public sphere with a bang. She produces hip-hop in a unique and innovative way where Sámi influence is always the norm. She mixes hard rap, hooky choruses and heavy electronic beats with her magical joik (traditional chanting style of singing unique to the Sami people), something that very few in the world have experimented with before. Over 10 years ago, Maxida decided to start producing her own songs. At the time, she was an established joik artist. But one night, while performing one of her favorite songs, a protest song against the mining industry, she made a decision. She was going to go all in on her self-penned hip-hop and soon managed to produce her own songs, just the way she wanted them to sound. So far she has released three albums and a large number of singles and EPs. Although the message of her songs is clear, it is not politics that drives her as an artist. It’s the quest to create great music. On stage, Maxida is cocky and assertive. By being honest and transparent about who she is she hopes to inspire others that you can be anything you want to be, regardless of your background.
