Elida Almeida

Elida Almeida is one of the most striking voices in contemporary Cape Verde. Winner of the RFI Discovery Prize, she delivers vibrant music blending batuque, funaná, and modern influences. She developed her vocal technique through the simplicity of church hymns and expanded her musical knowledge by hosting a program on a local radio station in Maio, where she grew up after her father’s passing, while supporting her mother, a street vendor. As a passionate advocate for the right to education, Elida left rural life to write songs filled with love and commitment. Her fresh, warm voice immediately captivated audiences.

Her debut album, Nta Konsigui (with over 2.7 million views on YouTube), won over audiences with her gentle yet powerful voice. She quickly established herself on world music stages across Europe, Africa, and North America.
