After Funk

Hailed as “the grooviest band north of the border” (Live for Live Music), Toronto-based After Funk has been blazing a trail through the North American music scene, leaving only happy hearts and dancing feet in its wake. The combination of Yanick Allwood (keyboards, vocals), Jaime Rosenberg (drums), Justin Bontje (bass) and Phil Tessis (guitar) – often augmented by a horn section and other collaborators –  is the perfect chemistry for an infectiously fun and challenging show. After Funk has released two albums to date: ‘Til The Sun Comes Up features Canadian hip hop legend Choclair and came to fruition through over $10,000 in crowdfunding presales, and the band’s self-titled debut EP was mixed and mastered by Alan Evans of Soulive.  An increasingly busy touring schedule has led to opening slots for groups like Lettuce, Snarky Puppy, Dumpstaphunk, Kung Fu, The Nth Power and Walk Off The Earth.  Christopher Tory of Live Nation praises After Funk’s “distinct, contemporary flavours mixed with all the necessary tried-and-true elements of classic funk, for an overall sound that grooves hard and moves audiences. These young virtuosos have a deep pocket and tremendous chops typically only exuded by bands twice their age.”
