Genticorum has become one of the most sought after proponents of Québécois music, having performed and toured in over 15 countries in North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.
Firmly rooted in the soil of their native land, this energetic and original traditional ‘power trio’ (Pascal Gemme on fiddle, feet, and vocals; Yann Falquet on guitar, jaw harp, and vocals; and Alexandre de Grosbois-Garand on wooden flute, electric bass and vocals) also incorporates the dynamism of today’s North American and European folk cultures in their music. “Generous in spirit, meticulous in detail and flawless in execution” (HOUR), the musicians weave precise and intricate fiddle and flute work, gorgeous vocal harmonies, energetic foot percussion and guitar and bass accompaniment into a jubilant musical feast. The result is “a sonic marvel of synergistic chemistry, which defers to song rather than to self”.
Though earnest and well-studied, these Québécois magicians & court jesters don’t take themselves too seriously. And with Genticorum’s unique combination of sounds and storytelling, and a band name that comes from a nonsensical word, neither can listeners.
Since emerging in the autumn of 2000, the band has released four celebrated albums: Le Galarneau (2002), Malins Plaisirs (2005), La Bibournoise (2008), and Nagez Rameurs (2011). They are this year’s recipients of Canadian Folk Music Awards for "Traditional album of the year" and "Ensemble of the year".
